FLEEING STATE HOSPITAL PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMINER AND PATIENT ARRESTED IN LAS VEGAS - HEARING SET FOR FRIDAY IN NEVADA

MICHELLE MESSER & CORY CHAPIN WERE ARRESTED IN LAS VEGAS THIS MORNING

A psychological examiner and a mental patient who left the Arkansas State Hospital together last week have been arrested in Nevada.

Michelle Messer, 41, and ASH patient Cory Chapin, 46, were being held in the Clark County jail. Authorities found the two at a home in North Las Vegas and arrested them about 8 a.m. Monday morning, according to the hospital police chief  Perry Wyse.

RECORDS FROM THE CLARK COUNTY NEVADA DETENTION CENTER

Messer faces a misdemeanor count of aiding an unauthorized departure of a state hospital patient. She also faces a felony count of providing prohibited articles to a patient here in Arkansas.

MISDEMEANOR CHARGES WERE FILED AGAINST MESSER ON MARCH 20th

FELONY CHARGES WERE FILED AGAINST MESSER THIS MORNING

Authorities said Messer and Chapin left the hospital in Little Rock together last Tuesday morning after hospital officials confronted Messer about providing contraband to Chapin. Messer, who has since been fired, is accused of giving Chapin a cellphone and a vaping device.

MORE DETAILS SURFACED IN A REPORT RELEASED TO NEWS MEDIA TODAY

Chapin had been committed to the hospital in 2015 after he was arrested in Eureka Springs on charges of attempted kidnapping, theft and drug possession, according to court records. In that case, Chapin reportedly told police that God had instructed him to abduct and rape a woman. He was acquitted by reason of mental disease or defect.

An affidavit filed by ASH Police Chief Perry Wyse lists false information about Chapin's criminal history; Chapin never kidnapped or raped anyone.

Chapin only told police in Eureka Springs back in 2015 when they found him sleeping in a car in a park that he planned to abduct and rape an individual.

ASH POLICE CHIEF PERRY WYSE - PLAYS LOOSE WITH THE FACTS

Court records show Chapin previously fled the hospital in February 2016 after he was granted a 48-hour pass to visit his father. He was found in Las Vegas in October 2017 and arrested.

While on the run, Chapin posted almost daily on Facebook and it was no secret where he was.  You can see examples of his Facebook activity while on the run in our previous post on this matter by clicking here.

Why it took the ASH 8 months to locate him is a question they refuse to answer.

Apparently Chapin was using the cellphone supplied to him by Messer to make posts as recently as March 9th on Facebook.

Messer's personnel file was released by DHS/ASH last week, but there was no document that indicated her termination in the file that was released to the media.

Stay tuned for updates.
