WORDS OF U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE TIMOTHY BROOKS |
U.S. District Judge Timothy L. Brooks dismissed a lawsuit by eight sexual assault
victims in Clarence Garretson's foster home who claimed Arkansas
Department of Human Services case workers knew about Garretson's record
of assaulting children but put them in the home anyway.
Brooks ruled the statute of
limitations had expired for the eight to take their claims to federal
court against the five current or former Department of Human Services
case workers and a supervisor.
Eight of the children were placed in foster care with Garretson and
his wife, Lisa, in Van Buren from 1998 to 2004. They ranged in age from 9
to 17 when they were abused, but all were adults by the time the
lawsuit was filed June 5, 2017.
Department of Human Services spokesman Amy Webb said Tuesday that she had not seen Brooks' ruling and had no comment.
Shame on DHS for failing these former foster children that they had a dsuty and obligation to protect.
How many foster children in their custody are experiencing similar abuse now and DHS has turned a blind eye on them?
